چکیده
Abstract Introduction Right ventricular function among β-thalassemia (β-TM) patients is affected by both pulmonary circulation pressure and primary iron deposition on right myocardium. Purpose In our study we aimed to detect the presence of impaired ventricle (RV-PC) coupling applying novel echocardiographic techniques these patients. Methods 47 β-TM (mean age 39.02±8.76 years, 48.9% male sex) 24, sex matched, healthy controls were examined transthoracic echocardiography. Conventional parameters estimated (LVEF, E/e' ratio, left atrial volume index (LAVI), systolic (RVSP), S' wave tricuspid annulus), alongside with deformation indices (left strain at reservoir phase (LASr), free wall (RVfw) 4 chamber (RV4c) strain), as well RV-PC expressed S'/RVSP, RVfw/RVSP RV4c/RVSP. T2* was calculated cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in patient group. Results LVEF, LAVI, RVSP, LASr, RVfw, RV4c, RV4c/RVSP differed significantly between (Table 1). did not correlate either or indices. A correlation found regarding LASr S'/RVSP (r=0.383, p=0.008) (r=−0.388, p=0.007) but RVfw/PVSP 2). Conclusions be compared controls, they do seem associated myocardial load (T2* index). also a strain. The latter suggests that cardiomyopathy could coupling. Right ventricular wall motion abnormalities n Thalassemia Major patients
Background Movement abnormalities in the left ventricle (LV) were shown to be not really frequent in thalassemia major (TM) patients but they were associated with age, myocardial iron overload, LV dilation and dysfunction, and myocardial fibrosis. No data are available about the prevalence and the correlates of right ventricular (RV) wall motion abnormalities. This study investigated the relati...

Background Thalassemia is the most common hereditary disorder worldwide. The patient's’ survival is dependent on lifetime blood transfusion which leads to iron overload and its toxicity on various organs including endocrine glands. The study aimed to investigate endocrine disorders in patients with Beta-thalassemia major in the Southern Khorasan province, Iran. Materials and Methods In this des...
متن کاملCytokine Gene Polymorphisms in Iranian Patients with Beta-Thalassemia Major
Background: β-thalassemia as a hereditary disease is defined as defective synthesis of β-globin chains, resulting in erythropoiesis abnormalities and severe anemia. Different studies have shown that cytokines and cytokine gene polymorphisms play a major role in the pathogenesis of β-thalassemia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the promoter region or other regulatory sequences ...
متن کاملHematuria in patients with Beta-thalassemia major.
INTRODUCTION Our information about renal involvement in beta-thalassemia major is limited. Recently, few studies have reported proteinuria, hypercalcuria, phosphaturia, and oversecretion of tubular damage markers; however, hematuria has not yet been meticulously studied in these patients. We investigated hematuria in patients with beta-thalassemia major. MATERIALS AND METHODS Urinalysis was p...
